Leroy Davis Sports
Breakfast
An annual highlight of the TBS Brotherhood calendar is the
Leroy Davis Sports Breakfast. Leroy Davis, who passed away in June 1976 at the
age of 57, was a major figure in Brotherhood history and this event was
established in his memory. His friend Arthur Bloom recounted the following in
2004: "Leroy Davis was a man that when you met him for the first time you could
not forget this soft spoken person. There was a time many years ago when the TBS
Brotherhood mas at a very low membership level. Leroy Davis was given the task
to build up the membership. Leroy worked at Allen's Hardware store in Needham .
If he knew you were a member of the Temple , he would introduce himself, then
shake your hand with an iron grip, talk to you with a very gentle voice, and ask
you to become a member of Brotherhood. Within the following two years he more
than doubled the Brotherhood membership. Leroy died at a very young age, and the
B rotherhood, to honor him, started the Leroy Davis Sports Breakfast."
Marc Comras Community Service
Award
Marc Comras was a longtime member of Temple Beth shalom and,
at the time of his death in August 2003, was Brotherhood's corresponding
secretary. Marc was an amazingly positive force in our community and
congregation. His response to any need was simple: "I'll take care of that!".
And he did - on countless occasions. Marc Comras was the embodiment of
community service. Brotherhood created this award in Marc's honor which is
awarded each year at the Brotherhood Shabbat service. The Comras award
acknowledges the contributions of those who quietly make a difference in our
temple community.
Recipients - 2004 Arthur Bloom, 2005 Jeremy
Serwer, 2006 Howard Ostroff, 2007 Roger Ambuter, 2008 David Berg.
