Yearly & Daily Schedule
The school year runs from mid September until early June. Morning hours are from 8:30 am until 11:30am. The school day continues with optional lunch bunch from 11:30am-2:30pm. An optional summer program offers water play, music, social action projects, art, cooking, Shabbat celebrations, and playtime with TBSCC friends & teachers. For 2 year olds, we currently offer 2, 3, 4, and 5 day per week programs. For three year olds, we offer a choice of three or five days per week. Four and five olds attend five days per week.
Our daily schedule is structured, yet
flexible. The schedule provides for a variety of experiences,
levels of difficulty, and pacing. Teachers allow time for
individual and small group learning (such as blocks, manipulatives, books,
dramatic play, art, and science) as well as whole class activities (such as
circle time, music, stories, and movement). A balance of indoor
and outdoor activities as well as of active and calm, quiet activities is
planned each day. Child-initiated learning is balanced with teacher-guided
activities for a complete educational experience. Multi-week units are planned
based on the interests of the students and carefully prepared to allow children
to explore at their own rate. The
schedule varies by the needs of the children in each individual class, but
generally you can expect the following components.
Arrival: Child start the day with a variety of
activities, such as painting at the easel, solving a puzzle, rising bikes
outdoors, or building with blocks.
Morning
Meeting/Circle: The class
gathers together to greet one another and learn together as a large group.
There may be singing, story reading, poetry, and sharing that occurs during
circle time. This is a time for building community within the
classroom.
Choice
Time: This is the time of day when the
learning, play and discovery occurs. A combination of small and large group,
as well as individual play and learning, might occur.
Snack:
A healthy mid-morning snack such as crackers, cheese, fruit,
vegetables, pretzels, mini-bagels, or hummus is provided.
The children also participate in many cooking activities, some of
which are served for snack. We serve water with our snacks,
with the exception of Fridays, when we serve 100% juice with challah as our
Shabbat snack.
Outdoor Play:
We play outside almost every
day. During inclement
weather indoor gym mats, ramps, slides provide an opportunity for movement and
gross motor development.
Departure:
Morning departure begins at 11:30 and ends by
11:45am. Children enrolled in lunch bunch continue on to their lunch at this
time.
Lunch: Lunch bunch meets from 11:45am-2:30pm. Lunch Bunch
provides an opportunity for the children to eat lunch with their school
friends. Parents provide a nutritious lunch for their
children. The teachers eat lunch with the children in order to
provide a relaxed, family-style atmosphere.
Quiet Time: After lunch, quiet time provides an important time
for children to reenergize. Children are encouraged to rest and
some children fall sleep. Teachers help the children relax and children who
don’t fall asleep listen to soothing music, quietly rest, or read individually
for half an hour. Afterwards they may participate in a quiet,
individual activity such as reading, drawing, or puzzles.
Work
Time: After quiet time the
school day continues as children read stories, explore materials, create art,
and participate in dramatic play. Out of respect the varying
energy levels of our children at this point in their busy days, groupings are
flexible and you may see children working in large groups, small groups or
individually.
