Funerals: Finding Comfort At a Time of Loss
Jewish
tradition is clear. In the shadow of loss, our community and our rituals are
intended reach out to us with acts that bring solace, comfort, and support.
As a member of Temple Beth Shalom, if you should experience the loss of
a loved one, please contact either the Temple directly (click
here for contact information and one of our
office assistants will contact one of our rabbis immediately) or the funeral
home with whom you are working. As all of the local funeral homes have the cell
phone and home phone numbers of our rabbis this option is particularly helpful
if the temple office is closed.
Either Rabbi Perlman or Rabbi Markley
will call you as soon as they are able to help support your family during this
difficult time.
As well, the Temple Beth Shalom community also reaches
out to all of our families who experience a loss. Our congregational family will
offer to be at your home for you during the time of the funeral, to lead shiva
minyan services in your home or in the home of a loved one, to bring food for
you and your family – both during shiva and, if necessary, beyond.
If
you are a member of Temple Beth Shalom and you experience a loss – regardless of
whether or not you would like for one of our rabbis to be with you during the
time of the funeral – please let us know by contacting the Temple office (click
here for contact
information). We would like to be able to reach out and offer to help in any way
that we are able.
