Greater Boston Jewish Coalition for Literacy
There is no more fulfilling act of gemulit hasadim than tutoring a kid who
needs help and makes good use of it. For over ten years, Temple Beth Shalom
volunteers have been tutors at the Mozart Elementary School in Roslindale as
part of the Greater Boston Jewish Coalition for Literacy. As the participating
tutors will tell you, it is rewarding and gratifying to work with individual
kids over the years and see the results, and they speak proudly of "their kids."
The tutoring has undoubtedly contributed to the Mozart School's improvement in
MCAS reading scores. Tutors have been recognized and honored at Social Action
Shabbats, at which the Mozart School principal and faculty members attended to
show their appreciation. There is no more effective and gratifying social action
than personally helping a student in need of some extra help and seeing the
direct results.
