About Us

TBS KeshetAs our temple is blessed with a growing and diverse membership, the needs of this community grow as well. One of the newest groups in the Temple Beth Shalom family is the Keshet Community. Keshet in Hebrew means “rainbow”. Our hope is that the TBS Keshet Community will be comprised of people from a variety of backgrounds. As with the Gay/Straight Alliances (GSA’s) in our high schools or PFLAG (Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays) in local communities, our purpose will be to provide education and support for members of the group as well as the entire TBS community.

It is our hope that this group will attract those in our community who:

  • Are part of the GLBT (Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual, & Transgender) community
  • Have family members who may be part of the GLBT community
  • Have friends who may be part of the GLBT community
  • Are looking for ways of becoming more aware of the issues pertaining to the GLBT community
  • Want TBS to be visible in the community as a congregation that welcomes members of the GLBT community
  • Want to understand better how Judaism and the Reform Movement in particular approach GLBT issues
  • Want to make sure that our school is a safe place for all of our children
  • Have a strong belief in equal rights, and social justice
  • Are interested in engaging in lively discussion and brainstorming
