Our community - as a whole and in smaller groups - regularly engages in the work of helping those who are in need. To help focus our community efforts, our congregational "Tikkun Olam" outreach is directed towards three important causes/organizations that help to feed the hungry, provide for the homeless, and support the learning of children. There is a button on the left where the organizations and the volunteer/giving opportunities of each are clearly described. Below are a few other Tikkun Olam activities that you can join.
Please consider how you and your family might make a difference in the lives of others during the coming year...and beyond!
“Tikkun Olam” – “Repairing Our World” – is, of course, a task for EVERY day. Still, each year, our community comes together and focuses our energies to participate in a special weekend of community activities. Join us to participate in the Boston Walk for Hunger, volunteer at the Greater Boston Food Bank, volunteer at Cradles to Crayons, and also work on family-friendly activities that benefit the members of our own temple community. This day of programming is perfect for adults, teens, and families! For more information, please contact Mara Gorden at firstname.lastname@example.org.
TBS "Tikkun Olam Weekend"
Every year, the TBS community prepares over a hundred hot, delicious meals on Christmas Day for those who are in need. This program engages dozens of Temple Beth Shalom members in preparing food at home, preparing and assembling full turkey dinners in the TBS kitchen, and then delivering these meals to the homes of our Needham neighbors.
Supported by our congregation’s own, “Feldman Outreach Fund” and coordinated in partnership with the Needham Community Council, “Project Ezra” touches the lives of hundreds of our friends and neighbors throughout our Needham community.
For more information and to participate, please contact Lois Sockol at email@example.com or Anne Braunsteinat 617-462-2214.
Every December the TBS Brotherhood proudly sponsors an annual Red Cross blood drive. Please join us in performing the mitzvah of giving blood! As a community, we have contributed over 100 units of blood each year for the past several years. (Not even the big snowstorm of a couple of years ago could stop us!). According to the American Red Cross, ours is one of biggest blood drives on their calendar. We provide bagels & lox, juice, and other sweets for all donors. We are looking for your support as blood donors and/or as volunteers for this special event. Please contact our Chief Phlebotomists at: firstname.lastname@example.org, or Alan Novick at email@example.com.
