"The Power of Resilience for All Ages" - Presented by Dr. Robert Brooks

On Sunday, September 15 at 9:30 am we will hear from Dr. Robert Brooks on a topic that is essential to all: resilience. Begin this year with a positive approach to relationships and community! Dr. Brooks is one of today’s leading speakers on resilience and family relationships. Practical strategies backed by extensive research will be presented with Bob’s warmth and humor.

All are invited: new/early parents through grandparents, mentors, and educators will enjoy and benefit from exploring balance in our personal and communal lives.

Dr. Brooks is a longstanding member of the TBS community, serves on the faculty of Harvard Medical School, and has served as Director of the Department of Psychology at McLean Hospital.

Light breakfast will be served.

"How Jesus Became God in Christianity" - A Lunch and Learn Series with Rabbi Bob Orkand

Beginning on Monday, September 16 from 12:00 noon - 1:30 pm - and weekly thereafter - join us for a fascinating exploration of Jesus. It goes without saying that Jesus and his teachings have had a profound influence on the world. It is important to realize that his actions and teachings didn't emerge in a vacuum. Rather, they were a product of a dialogue with--and reaction to--the traditions, cultures, and historical developments of ancient Jewish beliefs and practice. In fact, one cannot truly understand Jesus without understanding the time in which he lived and taught. Join us for this exploration of Jesus and, in doing so, discover new insights on Judaism as well.

"The Road to Jewish Character": A Taste of Mussar

Beginning on Tuesday, September 17 from 7:30 pm - 9:00 pm - and on most Tuesday nights throughout the year - join Rabbi Eric Gurvis for an exploration "Mussar." Mussar is a Jewish spiritual discipline that helps us to nurture depth of soul and spirit. Through encounters with Jewish wisdom and insight, we develop a way of living that reflects inner-peace, ethical living, and a deepened appreciation for life's blessings. A full calendar of classes will be sent following registration.

This full year class is sponsored by Hebrew College. Tuition for the year is $180.00. Scholarship is available.

To register, please contact Rabbi Jay Perlman at jperlman@tbsneedham.org directly.

Rabbi Gurvis is an outstanding teacher and Jewish community leader.

"How Do We Define Anxiety and Depression in the Modern Age?" - Presented by Dr. Alan Stern

On Sunday, September 22 at 9:30 am, join us for a thoughtful presentation by Dr. Alan Stern on behavioral health disorders. Many of us know people dealing this life challenge? Why does it seem to be occurring with greater frequency amongst children and young adults? Does social media play a role in this increase?

Dr. Alan Stern is a TBS member and Needham based pediatrician who is affiliated with multiple hospitals in the area, including Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Boston Children's Hospital. He received his medical degree from The Robert Larner, M.D. College of Medicine at The University of Vermont and has been in practice for more than 20 years.
