Katerine and her son did not want to start over in the U.S. They didn't speak the language and didn't know anyone here. But domestic violence forced them to escape Guatemala and, in the past year, they've had to move five times. Now Katerine and her nine-year-old son are sharing a safe apartment with another adult. Katerine is working part-time in the storage department of a Waltham store. Most of her earnings go toward rent, so there is little left for household necessities.
